Apple is reportedly working on a new 15.5-inch MacBook Air, according to Ross Young, an expert on displays and panels. Young said on Twitter that production of the panels for this device will begin soon, and the large-screen MacBook Air is expected to be released in the spring of 2023.
15.5-inch MacBook Air getting closer to launch
Apple is set to release a new 15.5-inch MacBook Air, which will be the largest MacBook Air model to date. The device will sit between the 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro models and will be a significant increase in size compared to the current 13.6-inch model.
Previous reports suggested that Apple was working on a MacBook Air with a larger screen, but the size was rumored to be 15.2 inches. The LCD panel for the new MacBook Air is expected to go into production before the end of 2023’s first quarter.
For now, the rumored 15.5-inch MacBook Air will use the same design language as the existing 13-inch MacBook Air, which was released in 2022. The device will also likely feature a MagSafe charging port, an upgraded speaker system, and a 1080p camera.
As for the hardware, not much is known at this point, but Apple is expected to include M2 and M2 Pro chip options in the 15.5-inch MacBook Air. On the other hand, the model in mention is not expected to have the ProMotion display found in MacBook Pro models.
Alongside the larger-screened MacBook Air, Bloomberg reported in June that Apple is also developing a 12-inch MacBook. This machine, however, is not slated for a launch until sometime at the end of 2023 or early 2024. What is your thought about 15.5-inch Macbook Air?
